Is this the next step to 'designer babies'?

Stephen Harbottle, consultant embryologist and person responsible at Cambridge IVF was featured in the Health Supplement this week following the decision by the Human Fertility and Embryology Authority (HFEA), which regulates fertility scientists, means the UK is the first country in the western world to allow such research.

Stephen says: "Experiments will be performed by a highly experienced team of scientists to a set of protocols which have been rigorously scrutinised by the scientific community and, crucially have been appropriately considered for their ethical and moral impact".

"These are not mad-scientists tampering with humans, this is a highly skilled and world renowned group of scientists using emerging scientific techniques to understand more about early human embryo development."
